Assos

Ayvacık, the ancient city of Assos, is a coastal town located 87 km south of Çanakkale, within the boundaries of Behramkale Village of Ayvacık district. Aristotle, the famous philosopher of the Antiquity, lived for a period in Assos, and made important research on zoology, biology and botany.

A significant portion of the 4 km long walls surrounding the city are still standing today. The Temple of Athena (Athena Tapınağı), located in the Acropolis, is one of the oldest Doric temples in Anatolia built in the Archaic Age. Among the ruins on the acropolis, the Temple of Athena is the best place to watch the magnificent view of Edremit Bay at sunset.

A big portion of the theater with a capacity of 4,000 spectators, has been preserved.  The bridge from the Ottoman period at the borders of Behramkale Village is completely standing and still in use.

After basking along the deserted bays and beaches in Assos, visit some of the larger and small villages of the area, with their quaint stone houses. Then stop in Sivrice, the famous bay of Assos, for an unforgettable glamping experience.

Surrounded by olive trees, the iconic Mount Ida of Homer's epics is the perfect location for an evening alone with nature.

Adatepe is a small Aegean village, a few miles east of Assos-Ayvacık, famous for its historical stone houses, at the foothills of Kazdağları (Mount Ida). At the Adatepe Olive Oil Museum you can learn all about olive oil production that has been flourishing in the region for almost a century, and you can taste fresh olive oil. You should also try Aegean herbs cooked and/or served with locally produced extra virgin olive oil.
